Privacy policy

What we collect

• Your email address, if you sign in.
• The interests you pick.
• A random device number, kept in a cookie, so a ban sticks to the device.
• Your IP address, which also tells us roughly which country you're in.
• A log of who was matched with whom, when, and whether it was text or video. It has no chat content.
• That you confirmed you're 18 or older.
• Reports: the reason, the note, and what the reporter saw (recent messages and, for video, one still image).

What we never see

Your messages, video and voice. They travel directly between the two devices and are encrypted on the way. When a direct route isn't possible they pass through a relay that can't read them. Your look and name in chat are made in your browser and stored only there. Your own browser hides phone numbers, emails and links in messages. That check happens on your device, so nothing is sent to us for it.

A heads-up about direct chats

Because chats are direct, the other person's device can see your IP address, as with most calls online. It can show roughly which city you're in. It can't tell them who you are.

Why we use it

To match you with someone, to sign you in, to check that you're in India and an adult, to handle reports and enforce bans, and to meet our legal duties. We ask for your consent when you start, and you can withdraw it by deleting your account and no longer using chatrealm.live. We don't sell your data and we don't use it for ads.

How long we keep it

• Match log: 180 days.
• Report evidence: 30 days after we decide the report. Evidence in a report about a child's safety: one year, because the law may need it.
• Bans: 180 days after they end.
• An account you signed in to: until you delete it. After that we keep your email and the deletion date for 180 days, because the Information Technology Rules, 2021 require it.
• A guest with no account: deleted about a day after the last visit.
• The record that a device accepted the terms and confirmed 18 or older: for as long as the device keeps using chatrealm.live.

Who we share it with

The email service that sends your sign-in code. Law enforcement, when the law requires it. We report child sexual abuse material and the abuse of children to the authorities, with the evidence we hold. Nobody else.

Cookies

One cookie keeps you signed in, or remembers you as a guest. One holds the device number. There are no advertising or tracking cookies.

Your rights

You can ask what we hold about you, ask us to correct or erase it, withdraw your consent, name someone to act for you, and complain. Write to the grievance officer on the contact page. If you aren't satisfied with the answer, you can complain to the Data Protection Board of India.

Children

chatrealm.live is not for anyone under 18, and we don't knowingly keep data about children. If we learn that a user is under 18, we remove them.

Where it is kept, and how

Data is kept on servers we rent, protected by encryption in transit and by access limited to the people who need it. If a breach affects your data, we will tell you and the Data Protection Board of India as the law requires.

Credits

We work out your country from your IP address using the free database by DB-IP.
